Technical Data
Abundant research has been conducted on the importance of soil quality, which is defined as the continued capacity of the soil to function as a vital living ecosystem that sustains plants, animals, and humans. Soil scientists acknowledge the importance of a fungal/bacterial balance in healthy soil and our unique fungal-rich vermicompost products offer a critical addition to your soil health restoration plan. In the test report section of this page, we are proud to present comparative test results from the fields to which our 2020 crop of fungal-rich vermicompost was applied and copies of the analytics from the product we are offering in the spring and fall of 2021. Not only did the 2020 test results identify increases in crop production, among other positive results they also noted important long term benefits to the soil from an increase in microbial activity, greater carbon content, improved water retention and increased aerobic activity from a reduction in ciliates.
Beginning with the early agrarian efforts of American settlers, the sodbusters of the great plains and continuing through today’s modern farming techniques, we’ve been on a steady course to destroy the health of our soil. Frequent tillage of the soil, coupled with the regular application of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, have depleted our soils of the rich microbial community that once existed. But there is hope! Over the last forty years, a ground swell movement has been advocating the importance of restorative soil management practices and that movement is making great strides. Farmers and ranchers are increasingly acknowledging that their practices must change, and we’re excited to be part of that change.
We are humbled by the efforts of others who have led the way in this critical endeavor to restore soil health. Our feeble attempts to summarize their important research, observations, testing, revised farming and ranching practices and their influence to effect a change in attitudes would fall short. Instead, we encourage you to visit the following websites to gain a better appreciation of the foundation they have laid toward revitalizing soil health. We believe you’ll be impressed with the knowledge, passion, and positive results which have been achieved by these dedicated individuals and that you will identify changes that you can make toward sustainable soil health practices. We would like to be your partner in that critical effort.
